Elkland | Robert J. Bacon, 86, of W. Main St., Elkland, died suddenly early Monday, April 12, 2021 in Elkland.
Born in Wellsboro on January 5, 1935, Bob was the son of the late Otto and Myrtle (Finch) Bacon. He was a 1953 graduate of Cowanesque High School in Westfield.
On September 30, 1955, he married the former Mary Jo Kernan at the Greenwood United Methodist Church. They were blessed with over 65 years together.
Bob studied for a career in border security but never pursued it as a career. Like many in the Cowanesque Valley, he became employed by the Elkland Leather Company. His time ended there following the devastating fire of 1973. He then was hired by the Ingersoll Rand Co. in Painted Post. At the beginning of his time there, he also worked for Metamora Plastics in Elkland during times of layoff at the Rand. He spent many years at Ingersoll Rand, working as a machine operator, and he retired from what later became, the Dresser Rand Co.
Bob was an avid outdoorsman and loved to fish and hunt. He also took great pride in his annual vegetable gardens which he diligently tended to.
Surviving Bob is his wife, Mary Jo Bacon of Elkland, children, John Bacon of York, PA, Steven Bacon of Alexandria, VA, Anne Bacon of Williamsport, PA, Susan (James) Hamilton of Addison, and Michelle Kargbo of Jacksonville, FL. grandchildren, Jessica, Brett, Brittany, Matthew, Rilee and Liam, brother, Andrew (Marlene) Bacon of Westfield, sister, Joanne Eaton of York, PA and several nieces and nephews.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Otto Bacon Jr. and Theodore Bacon and his brother in law, Robert Eaton.
The family will hold a private graveside service in Woodlawn Cemetery, Austinburg, PA.
Arrangements are with the H.P. Smith & Son Funeral Home in Woodhull, NY.
