Earle Tufford, of Pompton Lakes, died Monday, January 31, 2022. He was 71.
Born in Teaneck, Earle was raised in Cliffside Park, and graduated from Ridgefield Park High School. He was a member of the first graduating class from Bergen Community College, and went on to graduate from Montclair State University with a degree in Chemistry.
Earle married Mary McNeilly and they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in June 2021. They lived in Totowa and Haskell before moving to Pompton Lakes in 2018. Together they raised two sons Ben and Ken. Earle spent his career working as a Purchasing Agent for several chemical companies, and was last employed by Nice Pac in Orangeburg, NY. Following retirement, he spent a few years working for Shop Rite before fully retiring in 2019.
Earle and Mary were blessed with the births of three grandchildren, and they delighted spending time with them. Each summer, they would take their grandchildren to Myrtle Beach for a week alone together, and they would relish in really getting to spend quality time.
Earle was a life long Yankee fan and avid bowler. He bowled on teams with his father, and most recently enjoyed playing on Adult/Junior Leagues with his grandson, Aidan. It was a special time for them both, and it led to Aidan playing on his high school bowling team.
Earle was a loving husband, a dear father, and a beloved grandfather. He will be dearly missed. He is survived by his wife, Mary Tufford; his sons, Benjamin Tufford, of Bentonville, Arkansas and Kenneth Tufford of Fair Lawn, New Jersey; his sisters, Dorothy Merwede and Ann Tufford; and his grandchildren, Emily, Ryan and Aidan Tufford.
Visiting hours will be Monday, February 7 from 4-8 pm at the funeral home. A funeral Mass will be held 11 am Tuesday, Februar 8 at St. Francis Church, Haskell. Cremation will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Earle's name to the Community Food Bank of NJ would be greatly appreciated by the Tufford family.
