George Vincent "Poppy" Appollonia , 68, of Broadway, Kingston, formerly of Port Ewen and Ulster Park, NY, passed away while in the comforting presence of his loving family at the home of his daughter, Barbara Dyer, on Wednesday, January 26th, 2022 following a brief illness.
He was born in Kingston, New York on December 29th, 1953, a son of the late) Anthony and Virginia (Leonard) Appollonia.
George was employed as a machinist at Hucktrol in Kingston over 20 years. He was well-known as a "Jack-Of-All-Trades", a hard worker who would do anything for anybody. He enjoyed the outdoors and loved the casinos.
Most important to George was his family, especially his grandchildren, who he "Poppy" absolutely adored.
George is survived by his daughter, Barbara Dyer and her husband Scott of Ulster Park, one son, Richard Robinson, and his wife Mary, of Kerhonkson, one sister Gloria Potter, six grandchildren, Chasity, Nathaniel and Christopher Dyer, and Dakota, Richard and Cory Robinson. Many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by one sister, Karen Short, and brothers, Tony and Dennis Appollonia.
In following George's wishes, there will be no services. Cremation will be held at Wiltwyck Crematory, Kingston.
The family has entrusted the Gilpatric-VanVliet Funeral Home, 339 Broadway, Ulster Park, Town of Esopus, with the care and cremation arrangements for George.
