Elsie Smith

Elsie Jean Williams Smith, 63, of Ridgeland, MS, passed away surrounded by family on January 6, 2021 at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson after a hard-fought battle with Covid-19. Elsie was born in Jackson on April 1, 1957 to Robert and Billie Jean Williams. She graduated from Manhattan Academy in 1977. She retired in 2006 after a long, successful career as an employee with the State of Mississippi. It was a chance encounter in an elevator at work that brought her together with her husband, the late Norman A. Smith. They were joined in holy matrimony on March 14, 1987 and were happily married for thirty-three years prior to his death in April 2020. Elsie and Norman shared a great love of family, photography, hunting, fishing and Nascar. In her spare time, she enjoyed spending time and laughing with family and friends, crochet, cheering on the Ole Miss Rebels and various other sports teams, sharing funny memes on social media, and spoiling her “furbabies” Sheba and Lucy. Elsie was a longtime member of Broadmoor Baptist Church where she cherished her church family and faithfully served the Lord. She will be lovingly remembered by her precious dogs Sheba and Lucy, her sister Renee Williams Haynes (Blake), six nieces and nephews, and 12 great nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, her devoted husband, and her sister Lilly Mae Watts. Graveside Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 9 at Natchez Trace Cemetery in Madison. A Graveside Service will immediately follow at 2:30 p.m. Elsie was one of the kindest and most loyal people you could ever meet, and she supported the adoption of animals from local rescue organizations. In lieu of flowers, her family asks that you make a donation to the Brookhaven Animal Rescue League or Magnolia Speech School in Jackson in her honor.
