Walter Wintonyk passed away peacefully at the Yorkton and District Nursing Home on Thursday, May 4, 2023 at the age of 93 years. Walter is survived by his beloved wife, Mary after a blessed 70 years of marriage celebrated in August of 2022, two sons, daughters-in-law and grandchildren, Rick (Ingrid) Wintonyk and their children Grayden and Callen of Winnipeg MB, Rob (Karen) Wintonyk and their children Rebecca and Isabella of Kitchener ON, and former daughter-in-law Elaine (Arnold) Hornung of Grayson and her sons Jesse of Yorkton and Jody (Crystal) Wintonyk of Regina. Also survived by his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law George (Lorraine) Flunder and Rodney (Adelia) Flunder all of Yorkton, their families and the families of his siblings as he is the last surviving of his immediate family. Walter was predeceased by his son Barry in 2013, his parents Demetrius “Metro” (Nettie nee Perepeluk) and his sisters and brothers Mary (John) Rubiletz, Mike (Margorie) Wintonyk, Kay (Bill) Mayes, Anne (Andrew) Antony and Ed (Shirley) Wintonyk. Walter was born in Calder Saskatchewan November 23, 1929, and was raised on the farm near Wroxton Sk. Mary and Walter were married August 3, 1952, and lived on the farm for a few years, later moving to Yorkton, Saltcoats, Bredenbury and finally settled in Churchbridge to raise their family. In his early years in addition to farming, Walter gained employment driving transport truck and later began working at IMC (Mosaic) potash mine in Esterhazy where he retired on staff as a supervisor. Throughout all those years, his passion and love of farming remained strong as he planted crops yearly working the fields on his days away from work. He often joked that he worked at the mine to support his farming habits. Churchbridge quickly became home as he and Mary made many good friends, and they enjoyed volunteering for the Lion’s club and both became involved in the Catholic Church Community in Churchbridge often participating as Lay Presiders. Another passion became the local town council and later Walter became Mayor of Churchbridge for several years. Together with Mary, they cherished their time working with Saskatchewan Housing especially helping the local seniors in rental housing. In their more senior retirement years, they moved to Yorkton and enjoyed their friendships made at their condo and later the retirement homes they lived in. Aging gracefully and as the needs for care increased due to dementia, we are all thankful they were able to transfer to long term care at the Yorkton and District Nursing Home in Country Meadows. The family would like to thank all the staff of Country Meadows as well as Dr. Andy Van Heerden for their personal attention, care and hard work navigating all the challenges in today’s health care especially following the Covid outbreak. Our most sincere thanks are extended to our sister-in-law Elaine and our aunts, uncles and their families, Lorraine and George Flunder and Adelia and Rodney Flunder. They helped Mary and Walter in every way from their relocation to Yorkton when selling their home in Churchbridge to all their transitions in senior care through the retirement homes and finally the nursing home. Words cannot convey our thanks for the love and support shown to our parents. Finally, we remain thankful for Walter and Mary’s enduring faith which carried them through challenging times and carries us all now. In the comforting words of our mom, “everything is in God’s hands.” A prayer service was held on Thursday, May 11, 2023 from St. Gerard’s Roman Catholic Church with Mary Bybliw presiding. The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Friday, May 12, 2023 from St. Gerard’s Roman Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Louis Kim Nguyen as Celebrant. The interment followed in the Garden of St. Mark, Yorkton Memorial Gardens. Memorial donations in memory of Walter may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, the Alzheimer's Society or to a charity of one's choice as gifts of remembrance.

Your donation will be processed through My Tribute Gift Foundation for distribution to your selected charity. Your credit card transaction record will appear as My Tribute Gift Foundation. An official tax receipt for your donation will be issued by My Tribute Gift Foundation. Donations are sent out to charities at the end of each month for all donations received in that previous month. So a donation made on the first day of the month would be sent at the same time as one made on last day. Payments would be sent either by paper check or direct deposit. Please note that the there is 3% + 35¢/transaction fee for credit card processing, My Tribute Gift Foundation collects a 5% administrative fee. These fees help fund the cost of processing all donations, issuing tax receipts, and sending all appropriate information to the selected charity. These fees are assumed by your selected charity, but you will receive a receipt for the full amount of your donation. There are NO additional costs the charity has to endure to participate and accept donations through MyTributeGift.org. According to the American Institute for Philanthropy (charitywatch.org) a charitable organization is considered “Good” if they are spending less than 30% on administration and fundraising costs. My Tribute Gift Foundation helps reduce those administrative costs for charities and allows donors to contribute to lasting memorials for their loved ones.
When donating online, if the donation form has an option to add a tip, there is no convenience fee. The tip is optional and can be adjusted before you submit your donation. The amount of the tip will be displayed to you before you confirm the charge to your payment card. Tips are in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount that goes to the charitable organization. Under IRS and CRA rules, tips are not tax deductible to the donor.
You warrant and represent that all information and materials you provide to My Tribute Gift Foundation, through the Website or otherwise, are accurate and truthful and do not violate third party rights. TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL MY TRIBUTE GIFT FOUNDATION OR ITS AFFILIATES, OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, SERVICE PROVIDERS, AND AGENTS (THE "FOUNDATION PARTIES") BE LIABLE FOR ANY: (i) INDIRECT, CONSEQUENTIAL, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, COMPENSATORY OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES; (ii) DAMAGES FOR LOSS OF INCOME, LOSS OF PROFITS, BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, LOSS OF DATA OR DAMAGE TO PROPERTY; (iii) CLAIMS OF THIRD PARTIES; OR (iv) OTHER PECUNIARY LOSS, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THESE TERMS OF USE, THE WEBSITE OR ANY LINKED SITE. Indemnity. YOU AGREE TO INDEMNIFY AND HOLD HARMLESS THE FOUNDATION PARTIES FROM AND AGAINST ANY AND ALL CLAIMS, DEMANDS, ACTIONS, SUITS AND PROCEEDINGS BROUGHT BY YOU OR ANY THIRD PARTY (COLLECTIVELY "CLAIMS") ARISING OUT OF YOUR USE OF THIS SITE IN BREACH OF THESE TERMS OF USE OR THE INFRINGEMENT BY YOU OF ANY INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS OF ANY PERSON OR ENTITY, INCLUDING ALL LOSSES, LIABILITIES, DAMAGES, COSTS AND EXPENSES (INCLUDING ALL LEGAL FEES) ARISING FROM SUCH CLAIMS.

As a donor, you are responsible for researching the charity, understanding how your money will be used, and understanding the tax implications of your donation. We will email you a receipt, but the deductibility of your donation depends on your individual tax situation. We are not financial, tax, or legal experts. Please do not rely on our information to make decisions about your finances, taxes or legal matters. Consult a qualified professional in your jurisdiction.
Participating organizations have chosen to actively participate in the “Sponsor Program” to be represented in the Sponsor Charity array in an effort to increase their exposure and the opportunity for more memorial donations to be made to their organization. A rate structure is agreed upon and assessed on each donation processed through that program according to each organization’s individual agreement. Giving through that program has helped many organizations realize a drastic and significant increase in net donations.
If a donation form has a line item of Convenience Fee. The Convenience fee is displayed to you prior to approving the charge to your payment card. The convenience fee is in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount reaching the charitable organization. For example, a $100 donation becomes a $101.50 transaction. The convenience fee is directed immediately to a for-profit service provider. According to IRS and CRA rules the tax deductible receipt will therefore only be issued for the subtotal amount.
My Tribute Gift Foundation seeks to distribute all funds to organizations provided they have maintained active 501c3 certification in the United States or registered charity status in Canada. MTG relies on the beneficiary organizations to maintain and keep up to date contact information on file with the IRS or CRA respectively. This must be done in order for My Tribute Gift Foundation to exercise care and reasonable efforts to distribute payment promptly, without undue cost and burden to the foundation. In the event that a payment has not been deposited 12 months from issuance, the foundation reserves the right to utilize those funds in its mission to the foundation.
My Tribute Gift Foundation reserves the right to modify, change, discontinue and suspend these Terms of Use, the Website, and/or any services offered through the Website, in whole or in part, at any time, without prior notice to you. Your continued access or use of the Website after modifications to these Terms of Use have been posted on the Website shall indicate your acceptance of and agreement to be bound by these Terms of Use as modified.
