I am sorry to hearing about the passing of Emil Frind. I worked in the public sector for a lot of years and recall Emil attending Councils at both the Region and city of Water. He had a great sense of humour, and spoke in a down to earth conversational way so that even a public servant like myself could understand. best of all, he would also attend public meetings on municipal finances and budgets where he would lobby for funding that he preferred. Always charming, always cheerful, I am so sorry to hear of his passing. We may have had disagreements on policy or on the distribution of finances but it was done in his style where parties can disagree but leave on good terms. he did an awful lot for this Region and for this City.

It is with sadness that we announce Emil Frind has passed away on Sunday December 25, 2022. Emil was born in Germany in 1932 to Emil and Marie Frind. He immigrated to Canada in 1955, soon followed by Rosemarie, and they married in 1957. Together they had one son, Michael. Rosemarie and Emil lived an active life, enjoying many wonderful excursions. They both had a keen appreciation of nature’s abundant beauty. They hiked, skied, canoed, and they also enjoyed the solitude of their farm. Emil especially enjoyed picking apples from his trees. In his professional life, Emil completed his education in Canada, and by 1971 he had earned his doctorate from the University of Toronto. In the same year, Bob Farvolden hired Emil at the University of Waterloo, as a hydrogeologist and groundwater modeller. Throughout his career, Emil developed and taught courses that included his favourite course “Fundamentals of Groundwater Modelling”, a first for undergraduate curricula within Canada and which became one of his legacies. Emil enjoyed mentoring many graduate students, several of whom went on to become professors and hydrogeologists themselves. He wrote hundreds of professional reports and journal articles, and he served as editor for several scientific journals. Emil received many awards for his highly cited research and his teaching. He also enjoyed contributing to the public good on many environmental issues, including the protection of both drinking water supplies and aquatic ecosystems. His work played a key role in developing public awareness of the role of groundwater and the importance of protecting aquifer recharge areas. He loved his work. Even after retirement at age 65, Emil continued to teach and mentor graduate students. Among his deepest research passions was the protection of fractured-rock aquifers. Emil’s research connections spanned the globe, and he spearheaded exchange programs for graduate students in order to enable them to broaden their own connections. Emil is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years Rosemarie, son Michael, and their dear friend Frances. Emil is also survived by his beloved sisters in Germany Edith, Annemarie, and Christl, as well as their children. Countless friends and professional colleagues around the world are saddened by his passing. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held later. “The man is a success who has lived well, laughed often and loved much; who has gained the respect of intelligent men and the love of children; who has filled his niche and accomplished his task; who leaves the world better than he found it....who never lacked appreciation of the earth’s beauty or failed to express it, who looked for the best in others, and gave the best he had.” (Robert Louis Stevenson) Condolences to the family and donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Canadian Wildlife Federation, the Bruce Trail Conservancy, or a charity of your choice, and would be appreciated by the family. An official tax receipt for your donation will be issued by My Tribute Gift Foundation. Donations are sent out to charities at the end of each month for all donations received in that previous month. So a donation made on the first day of the month would be sent at the same time as one made on last day. Payments would be sent either by paper check or direct deposit. Please note that the there is 3% + 35¢/transaction fee for credit card processing, My Tribute Gift Foundation collects a 5% administrative fee. These fees help fund the cost of processing all donations, issuing tax receipts, and sending all appropriate information to the selected charity. These fees are assumed by your selected charity, but you will receive a receipt for the full amount of your donation. There are NO additional costs the charity has to endure to participate and accept donations through MyTributeGift.org. According to the American Institute for Philanthropy (charitywatch.org) a charitable organization is considered “Good” if they are spending less than 30% on administration and fundraising costs. My Tribute Gift Foundation helps reduce those administrative costs for charities and allows donors to contribute to lasting memorials for their loved ones.
When donating online, if the donation form has an option to add a tip, there is no convenience fee. The tip is optional and can be adjusted before you submit your donation. The amount of the tip will be displayed to you before you confirm the charge to your payment card. Tips are in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount that goes to the charitable organization. Under IRS and CRA rules, tips are not tax deductible to the donor.

Indemnity. YOU AGREE TO INDEMNIFY AND HOLD HARMLESS THE FOUNDATION PARTIES FROM AND AGAINST ANY AND ALL CLAIMS, DEMANDS, ACTIONS, SUITS AND PROCEEDINGS BROUGHT BY YOU OR ANY THIRD PARTY (COLLECTIVELY "CLAIMS") ARISING OUT OF YOUR USE OF THIS SITE IN BREACH OF THESE TERMS OF USE OR THE INFRINGEMENT BY YOU OF ANY INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS OF ANY PERSON OR ENTITY, INCLUDING ALL LOSSES, LIABILITIES, DAMAGES, COSTS AND EXPENSES (INCLUDING ALL LEGAL FEES) ARISING FROM SUCH CLAIMS.
If in any part of these Terms of Use is held, by a court of competent jurisdiction, to be invalid or unenforceable, such part of these Terms of Use shall be eliminated to the extent permitted in that jurisdiction, for purposes of that jurisdiction, and the remaining Terms of Use shall otherwise remain in full force and effect.
These Terms of Use and your use of the Website are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and all federal laws of Canada applicable therein. The courts of the Province of Ontario shall have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of these Terms of Use or your use of the Website.
These Terms of Use constitute the entire agreement between you and My Tribute Gift Foundation with respect to the Website, except as we may explicitly agree otherwise in writing.. No delay or failure to exercise any right with respect to these Terms of Use shall be construed as a waiver by My Tribute Gift Foundation.
As a donor, you are responsible for researching the charity, understanding how your money will be used, and understanding the tax implications of your donation. We will email you a receipt, but the deductibility of your donation depends on your individual tax situation. We are not financial, tax, or legal experts. Please do not rely on our information to make decisions about your finances, taxes or legal matters. Consult a qualified professional in your jurisdiction.
Participating organizations have chosen to actively participate in the “Sponsor Program” to be represented in the Sponsor Charity array in an effort to increase their exposure and the opportunity for more memorial donations to be made to their organization. A rate structure is agreed upon and assessed on each donation processed through that program according to each organization’s individual agreement. Giving through that program has helped many organizations realize a drastic and significant increase in net donations.
If a donation form has a line item of Convenience Fee. The Convenience fee is displayed to you prior to approving the charge to your payment card. The convenience fee is in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount reaching the charitable organization. For example, a $100 donation becomes a $101.50 transaction. The convenience fee is directed immediately to a for-profit service provider. According to IRS and CRA rules the tax deductible receipt will therefore only be issued for the subtotal amount.
My Tribute Gift Foundation seeks to distribute all funds to organizations provided they have maintained active 501c3 certification in the United States or registered charity status in Canada. MTG relies on the beneficiary organizations to maintain and keep up to date contact information on file with the IRS or CRA respectively. This must be done in order for My Tribute Gift Foundation to exercise care and reasonable efforts to distribute payment promptly, without undue cost and burden to the foundation. In the event that a payment has not been deposited 12 months from issuance, the foundation reserves the right to utilize those funds in its mission to the foundation.
My Tribute Gift Foundation reserves the right to modify, change, discontinue and suspend these Terms of Use, the Website, and/or any services offered through the Website, in whole or in part, at any time, without prior notice to you. Your continued access or use of the Website after modifications to these Terms of Use have been posted on the Website shall indicate your acceptance of and agreement to be bound by these Terms of Use as modified. It is your responsibility to review these Terms of Use regularly.
