John P. Woods, 42, of Pompton Plains, passed away on June 17, 2022.
John was born on August 15, 1979, 30 years and one day after his father's birth. He was a very active child and young man. He loved climbing trees, swimming, fishing, he was a diehard Yankee fan and he was a gymnast for about 10 years until he sustained a knee injury. At the tender age of five, he would constantly visit neighbors just to say hi and, if you were a new family in the neighborhood, he was always the first one to greet you and welcome you to the neighborhood.
As a young man he installed carpeting for his friend's father for a number of years. He also dabbled in various jobs including roofing, electrical work, forklift driver, driver for a garden center, there wasn't anything he couldn't do, he was the typical jack-of-all-trades. Oh yes, he was an excellent cook.
John is survived by his parents, John R. Woods and Christine Woods nee Askling; his sister, Rebecca and her husband Dave; his aunt, Arlene; and his cousins, Evan, Jillian, Tiffany and Stacy.
Family and friends may visit on Tuesday, June 21 from 6-8 pm and Wednesday, June 22 from 10 am to 11:30 am at M. John Scanlan Funeral Home Pompton Plains. A funeral service will conclude the visitation period on Wednesday. Burial will follow at First Reformed Church Cemetery, Pompton Plains.
