Henrietta Collette

Henrietta P. Collette was called home to be with the Lord on May 10, 2020. Henrietta, affectionately known as "Hank," was born March 23, 1932, to Margaret Ann (Carson) and Jessie Powell in Williamston, North Carolina. At the age of two, Henrietta, with her parents and her three sisters and a brother migrated to Chester, Pennsylvania. The family was later bless with another girl while living in Chester. Henrietta attended public schools in Chester, Pennsylvania. In her youth, she would visit Atlantic City, during the summer to work and spend time with her sister. It was in Atlantic City that she met the love of her life, Walter L. Collette. On March 23, 1952, she and Walter married. From this union four children were born: D'Lynn, Decarlo, Francesca and Thomas. Henrietta was very active in the Parent Teacher's Assocation of the schools her children attended. During her career she worked for: the Atlantic City Coat Factory; American Tobacco Company; Colonial Frozen Food and the City of Atlantic City's Summer Program. Mrs. Collette attended Atlantic Community College and Rutgers University which enabled her to earn the position of event co-coordinator for the City of Atlantic City's All Wars Memorial Building from where she retired. Henrietta was active in the community. She was a Republican County Committee Person, who was appointed to Atlantic City's First and Second Wards. She was also a member of various organizations including: the Tropicana Federated Charity Club of Atlantic City; Follow-Through Program; Three R's Social Club; Antler Guard I.B.P.O.E.; Azure Temple #38; Neptune Drum and Bugle Corps.; Ladies Auxiliary of the Le Gendames and Policemen Organization. She was a member of Second Baptist Church in Atlantic City, New Jersey, where she served as a Treasurer, Host and Hostess Club and sang on the Senior Choir. Henrietta is predeceased: by: her husband, Walter L. Collette; children, Francesca and Thomas Collette; parents, Margaret and Jessie Powell; sister, Dorothy; brother, Edward; grandson, Richard Collette and stepfather, Marion Dickens. She leaves to cherish fond memories: her daughter, D'Lynn Collette; son, DeCarlo "Ricky" Collette; sisters, Jessie Powell, Bettye Bean and Josephine Blow; granddaughters, Tammaraw and Shantell Collette; great-grandson, Kai'ree Parker; great-granddaughters, Kamtyn Crenshaw and Aurora Hodge; God-daughters, Charmaine Washington and Tamia Holloway; bonus grandchildren, Wesley Hodge (Felicia), Tiana and Jon Jones. Funeral services are private due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Mrs. Collette will be laid to rest in the Lincoln Memorial Park, Mays Landing, New Jersey.
