Allan McPhee, Glace Bay
We are sad to announce the peaceful passing of Allan McPhee, age 80 of Glace Bay on Wednesday, September 6th, 2023 at the Cove Guest Home in Sydney.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Malcolm and Monica (MacIntyre) McPhee.
Allan worked as a teacher, vice-principal and principal at schools in Glace Bay, Louisbourg and Albert Bridge. He retired as vice-principal at Sydney Academy. After retiring, he continued to teach adult courses throughout Cape Breton. Allan’s life revolved around helping the youth.
He helped finding them jobs and obtaining them benefits for which they were entitled. His kindness was shown, today, by these young people thanking him when they would meet him. Allan never wanted a thing in return. Attention, he never wanted nor needed.
Allan worked for 24 years with Scotia Army Cadets becoming commanding officer of the Corps. He attended army cadet camp for 15 summers in Gagetown, NB. He ended his military career as Lt. Colonel in charge of all army cadets from NS, NB, and NL at Camp Argonaut Cadet Training Centre.
Allan will be missed by his wife of 55 years, Anne (McIntosh) McPhee and the loves of his life, his three sons and six grandchildren, Michael (Allison), Allan (Lesya), Darren (Kathy), his buddy Noah, John Calum, Allan, Adrianna, Brooke and Ella.
He is also survived by sisters Gen Doyle and Valerie (Peter) Radke, brothers Malcolm and Michael.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by his brother Jack, sisters Lorna Keiser and Marion Moravik.
We would like to thank the staff of the Cove, Dr. Archibald, VON and the caregivers who looked after him at home.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, Glace Bay.
Abiding by Allan’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. A private service for family will take place at a later date. On line condolences to the family can be expressed at: www.vjmcgillivray.ca
