Olive "Linda" Sparks
Olive Lillian “Linda” Sparks (Watson), passed away peacefully in Stratford on February 16, 2022 in her 101st year.
Linda was born May 23rd, 1921, in Toronto and grew up in the Village of Swansea. In 1953 she married her childhood friend, Vic Sparks. They moved to Etobicoke, where they raised their family, and lived in the same house together for 41 years. Linda remained in the family home after Vic died, but later moved to the Grenadier Retirement Residence where she met Ken Faggetter. Linda and Ken started up a friendship when they discovered they were both reading the same book about the brain. Linda and Ken married when she was 87 years old.
Linda was a proud graduate of McMaster University (1949) and often spoke fondly of living in the Wallingford Hall residence. At the age of 60, Linda graduated from the University of Toronto, Trinity College with a Master of Divinity. After she graduated with her MDiv, Linda was ordained as a Minister of the Canadian Baptists of Ontario and Quebec. She was an active participant in CBOQ activities and worked as a Chaplain in various Toronto hospitals. A long-time and faithful member of Kingsway Baptist Church, she served the Church in several roles, including as an Associate Minister for pastoral care.
Linda had a passion for reading and learning. She was a lover of books and over the years amassed a large library on many different topics. She referred to her books as “her friends”. Linda was also known for her love of the colour orange – a trait that has been passed on to some of her grandchildren.
Linda was predeceased by her husbands, Vic (1995) and Ken (2021) and by her sister Elsie (2010). She will be sadly missed by her sons, Chris and Tim, and their wives, Jill and Linda and her grandchildren, Erin, Evan and Megan, and Thomas and Christen. She will also be missed by her stepsons, Ron and Doug Faggetter, and their wives, Cynthia and Kelly, and her step-grand-daughter Kathleen.
The family would like to thank the staff at Cedarcroft Place Retirement Residence as well as the CarePartners team for their kindness and support for Linda.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Linda’s life will be held at a later date.
