Charles passed away peacefully at Hampton Terrace with family at his side.
Devoted husband to Janice (nee Young) for 65 years, beloved father of Judy (Ross), Derek (Beth), Charles Jr. (Joanne) and predeceased by Ian (Nancy). Cherished grandfather to Matthew, Spencer, Lilly, Fred, Alex, Sidney and James.
Charles grew up in rural New Brunswick and was hospitalised for 12 months as a young adult with books of poetry and science as companions. Once released from the hospital, Charles flourished. He would regale us with fantastic stories of his youth from homemade diving bells and steam cannons to rescuing train cars full of ice cream. Charles graduated from St Francis Xavier University and the University of New Brunswick with a degree in Mechanical Engineering but would also complete post graduate work in Business at both Columbia and Northeastern Universities.
Charles began his career in 1954 with the New Brunswick Power Corporation, the Department of National Defence, and Montreal Engineering but the bulk of his career was with Diamond Canapower serving the Canadian Energy Industry. Charles retired in 1991 after over 20 years service as President and CEO. Charles also served on the Board of Directors for Babcock and Wilcox Canada during this time. Charles truly loved being an Engineer and was a good friend and mentor to many. After his retirement Charles continued to consult for Canadian energy providers as well as travel, garden and participate as an active community member of both Burlington, ON and Magog, QC.
His care, love and support was omnipresent and he will be greatly missed.
Cremation has occurred and a celebration of life will be held in the near future. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Covenant House.
